It’s true that most bands rock less as they age. The few that go against the grain remain rare exceptions. Specifically, hardcore bands tend to blow up long before they can go limp. Such was the case with Assfactor 4. The legendary South Carolina quartet called it quits at the height of its powers in 1997, despite its second LP, Sports, not being released until 2000. That posthumous release has managed to keep the rumors alive that the band would get back together in some form for a decade.

Benefit for Knox raises $40k
Looks like Ba Da Bing Ben and the Kickstarter kids raised $40k for Mr. Knox. Didn’t get a ticket? You can always support Chris and buy a copy of the tribute album.
It’s nice to see the outpouring of support continue almost a year later. We here at the drawer have a soft spot for the legendary Mr. Knox and not simply because he once commented on one of our posts. Get well soon, Chris.

VIDEO: Foals “This Orient”
Now with two new songs exposed, Foals’ follow-up to the masterful Antidotes may very well be a completely different animal. The hyper-kinetic tension that made songs like “Balloons” and “Red Sox Pugie” such infectious anthems is nowhere to be found. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The band is experimenting with mood, sound, and texture in subtler ways. The new songs aren’t as immediate but they definitely grow on you. I’m cautiously intrigued.

New record from CocoRosie coming in May
With word of a new CocoRosie record due in May, I was reminded of the brilliance of “Terrible Angels” and their debut record, La maison de Mon Rêve.

USA Today slags Bird and Bee tribute to Hall and Oates
“The pop duo’s ‘Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates’ just misses the mark.” Maybe they should have chosen to do Journey covers instead?
